Gianni Brunelli and wife Laura had been
running a successful restaurant in Siena for
10 years. But in 1987 Gianni felt the call of
his hometown, Montalcino, and took over La
Chiuse di Sotto estate from his father.
He fast gained a reputation for producing some of the town’s most
impressive Brunellos di Montalcino.
Sadly, Gianni passed away unexpectedly in 2008. Laura now carries
the family torch, and has brought her own style to the wines. While
some Brunello can feel a bit overblown and punchy, Laura’s wines have
a lightness of touch and an elegance. They’re delicious from an early
age. But they’ll still age with the best.
