Fattoria Petrolo

It was Denis Durantou, owner of Pomerol’s L’Eglise Clinet, who persuaded Luca Sanjust that Merlot would be ideally suited to his Galatrona vineyard in the Valdarno di Sopra subregion of Chianti. Petrolo lies just outside the Chianti Classico zone, but Luca’s wines demonstrate how special this piece of Tuscany is. While the property is 272 hectares, just 31 of which are vineyards, which were recently converted to organic production. Notably, the 2015 vintage of Galatrona was named the number two wine in the world by James Suckling recently, proving the heights this poperty’s top wine can reach.
