Krone is a notable producer of Cap Classique, South African vintage sparkling wine produced in the best champagne traditions. Its first bottle was released in 1991 and Krone Cap Classique remains one of the Cape’s best known labels. The Borealis Cuvee Vintage is the flagship Krone wine. The Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes are harvested by night and the wine matures on the lees in the cold of the underground cellars of the Twee Jonge Gezellen estate for at least 12 months, and sometimes up to 16 years. These were the first underground cellars in Africa, and any visitor to the estate will be struck by its heritage and history. The 300-year old estate started making wine in the early 20th century and invented cold fermentation in the 1950s.
