Another of Burgundy’s celebrated Domaines, Maison Louis Jadot was established in 1859. Its 154 hectares produce Chablis, Beaujolais, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, amongst other varieties, with many of its vineyards holding Grand Cru and Premier status. From 1970, for 42 years, Louis Jadot was presided over by one of the great characters of French winemaking, Jacques Lardière. His laissez-faire philosophy – ‘we do the same thing every year’ – is still the guiding spirit of Louis Jadot, with as little intervention in nature as possible. Because of this there is always excitement among wine lovers about what will emerge from those Beaune oak barrels each vintage.
