Château Certan de May can trace its history back to the Demay’s, a Scottish family who settled in France in the 16th century and were gifted the estate by royal decree. The land was once part of much larger holdings which included Vieux Château Certan. It was split following the French Revolution and Vieux Château Certan is now a near neighbour, along with La Fleur-Pétrus. Certan de May was owned by descendants of the Demay’s until 1925 when it was bought by the Barreau family. Jean-Luc Barreau owns Certan de May today and together with the help from Michel Rolland (until 2012) and now Jean-Claude Berrouet is taking the château from strength to strength. The 5 hectare estate sits on prime vineyards on Pomerol’s prized plateau and has long enjoyed an excellent reputation within the appellation.
