Château Latour is a Pauillac power-house that commands an enviable reputation, high prices and is one of the most famous wine names in the world. Geographically and stylistically it lies opposite its rivals, Châteaux Lafite and Mouton - Latour sits in the southern tip of Pauillac, its vines adjacent to the Gironde Estuary and it is known for its robust, almost St Julien-esq consistency and depth, even in poorer vintages. The estate can be dated back to 1331, when the famous tower was built, and vines have been grown on the land since at least the 1400s.The estate itself took shape in the 17th century and was ranked as a First Growth in the 1855 classifications. It is now owned by Francois Pinault with Frédéric Engerer overseeing the day-to-day running of the estate, and they ensure that the utmost care and attention is applied to ensure it maintains its world class status. Its most important vineyard is l’Enclos, a 47-hectare vineyard in the heart of the domaine.
