The owners of Boscarelli, the Marchesi de
Ferrari, are from the North of Italy. In fact,
current owner Paula de Ferrari and son Luca
still commute to the estate from Genoa.
However, their wines are nothing but Tuscan
in their power and finesse.
It’s a tiny estate, which gives the family total control over every part,
and means they’ve been able to create wines of real individual
character. Luca works alongside celebrated winemaking consultant
Maurizio Castelli making the wines, and his brother Nicolo is
responsible for the vineyards.
Indeed, it’s only Nicolo who lives on site. Hugely charismatic and
a trained architect, every time we meet Nicolo his facial hair has
changed, from remarkably unruly and unkempt to perfectly manicured.
What remains constant is the quality of the wines from one of
Montepulciano’s greatest names.
