Torbreck
Torbreck is one of the most revered producers in Australia. Based in the Barossa Valley, it’s named after a Scottish forest, just south of Inverness, and was founded by David Powell, who worked as a lumberjack before falling in love with winemaking. Under Dave’s stewardship the winery picked up a slew of brilliant scores for wines made from incredibly old vines. This quality is evident up and down the range, from their brilliant entry-level, Côtes du Rhône-inspired Cuvée Juveniles, all the way to the legendary The Laird. The estate is now run by Ian Hongell, who grew up on a neighbouring vineyard and whose family originally supplied grapes to Torbreck. This is a world-class estate going from strength to strength.
