Arranging wines to be collected

If you have duty paid wines which need to be collected and transferred into your cellar with us, we would be delighted to help.

Let us know what to collect

Please contact [email protected] to obtain our collection form. The form captures all the required information for us to arrange your collection. Including the following:

  • Your Lay & Wheeler account number
  • List of incoming wines including:
    • Number of units (e.g. 1 case of 6 bottles)
    • Value of the wine (if the total value is over £30,000, extra insurance will need to be arranged by the customer)
    • Whether the wine is stored in secure and sturdy packaging, or whether additional packaging is required
  • Where the wine is to be collected from
  • Date of collection

- Please note all wine must be packaged in secure, sturdy packaging and there is a charge of £18 per case (minimum £54 per collection) for collections applicable to all customers as well as for insurance. If packaging is required, we can provide ahead of your collection, charge applicable.

-There is a £20 per case (12 bottle or equivalent by volume) charge for itemization of mixed cases.

- Original sealed cases will be insured up to £5,000. If stock value is between £5,000 & £30,000 there is a charge of £30 for insurance. Over £30,000 a quote for insurance will need to be requested or arranged by the customer.

- Single Bottles and mixed cases will not be insured and any insurance will be the responsibility of the customer to arrange.

We’ll arrange the collection

Once the collection form has been filled in and return to us, we will confirm when the wines will be picked up. We can’t accept amendments within 48 hours of the collection day.

Condition of the wines

When the wines are received at our warehouse, their condition will be checked. On rare occasions, we will be in touch if there is a query (e.g. a damaged package, stained label) or an issue (e.g. case has woodworm)

We’ll add it to your reserves

Once our warehouse receives the wine, it will be checked, verified versus the original instruction, and then added to your reserves. It is the customers responsibility to raise any discrepancy on the wines.

If you are transferring wines from outside the UK

We can recommend a third party shipper who can bring the wines into the UK, and then discuss with you a UK-based point of collection.
