Chenin Blanc & Chenin Blends
Chenin Blanc is South Africa’s most famous white variety, and also the most extensively planted, covering just over 18% of the vineyard area. The old bush vines of the Swartland produce some of the most captivating whites of the Cape - the wines of Adi Badenhorst, Mullineux, and David & Nadia are some of the very best examples of this. Yet there are wines such as Sebastien Beaumont’s Hope Marguerite Chenin from the Bot River that offer a beautifully crystalline, racy iteration of this variety. A favourite of ours is from Bernhard Bredell in Stellenbosch: the Scions of Sinai Granitsteen Chenin Blanc, coming from a small, single vineyard of old vine Chenin Blanc planted in 1978 on decomposed granite soils.
