Domaine Arlaud
Critic Score
86.75/100
2023 Bourgogne Roncevie, Domaine Arlaud Magnum Dry | Red | Still

Cyprien makes two Bourgognes, and this is the one that comes from the domaine’s single parcel which lies just beyond the village boundary of Gevrey-Chambertin, but a stone’s throw from the village’s Grands Crus. It is a fairly serious Bourgogne, with an expressive, chewy core to it, offering up the density of Gevrey, with the open fruit to drink well from early on.

Domaine Boris Champy

2023 Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Altitude 377 Le Clou, Domaine Boris Champy Magnum Dry | Red | Still

Le Clou is a single vineyard in Nantoux sitting at a precise 377 metres elevation. Its soil is similar to Volnay, with chalky, rocky topsoil over limestone marl bedrock. 90% whole-bunch has been used to great effect here: it has a fine, elegant aroma of maraschino cherries and cinnamon spice, with silky tannins and impressive concentration on the poised finish. 100% 1 year old oak - this is the wine that Boris is making to try and elevate / demonstrate what he is doing in the Hautes-Côtes.

Domaine Comte Armand
Critic Score
93.5/100
2023 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux, Comte Armand Magnum Dry | Red | Still

This is an important vineyard both in terms of its size (5.23 hectares) and its historical stock of 100+ year old vines. The concentration here, in 2023, is exquisite. It is another great example of the Clos and one of the finest we have tasted - another chance for Paul Zinetti, régisseur, to rewrite the old trope that Pommard is muscular and rustic only. Instead this is powerful, svelte, profound, and intense. It is truly one of the greatest vineyards of the Côte de Beaune.

Domaine William Fèvre
Critic Score
90.5/100
2023 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons, William Fèvre Double Magnum Dry | White | Still

Vaillons is a warm, sunny premier cru, much admired in the region. Fèvre has a substantial 3.5 hectares right in the middle of the slope. Their 55-year-old vines produce concentration and ripeness in the wine. This 2023 is bursting with floral aromatics: white blossom and jasmine spice with a hint of white pepper. It is delicious already, but will age brilliantly too.

2023 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos, William Fèvre Double Magnum Dry | White | Still

William’s father planted some of these vines in 1948. Since then, the domaine has expanded its holdings, and it is now the largest owner of Chablis’ greatest site with over four hectares. Lots of their vines are at the top of the hill, in a cool site, where the best soils are found. The wine is saturated in white peach, oyster brine, and limestone minerality. It is statuesque yet understated. This is truly grand cru in every sense.

2023 Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses, William Fèvre Magnum Dry | White | Still

Preuses tends to be the most mineral and chalky or the grand cru lieux-dits, and the Fèvre example is quintessential. It is tight and powerful, with wonderful depth on the nose. The palate has pronounced energy and precision, and there is a long, tingling line of mineral freshness that stretches right down the finish. It encapsulates the purity and finesse of the 2023 vintage.

Domaine de l'Arlot
Critic Score
93.5/100
2023 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts St-Georges, Domaine de l'Arlot Magnum Dry | Red | Still

This monopole vineyard spans over seven hectares of white and pink limestone hillside, accounting for almost half the domaine’s production. In 2023 it steals the show, with its plush fruit, and beautifully rounded tannins. Excellent length that plays with fruit and spice gives it a persuasive power.

Domaine des Comtes Lafon
Critic Score
91/100
2023 Mâcon-Chardonnay Clos de la Crochette, Héritiers du Comte Lafon Magnum Dry | White | Still

The Chardonnay of this wine’s name actually refers to the village, although it’s a rather nice nod to the variety that is responsible for the vast majority of the wines produced in Mâcon. Clos de la Crochette is a charming walled vineyard that Dominique Lafon bought in 2003. After a little investigation he discovered it is one of the most historic sites in all of Burgundy, first planted by the monks of Cluny (c.900 AD). The energy and tension of the 2023 emphatically demonstrates why this has been a favourite spot with winegrowers through the centuries.

2023 Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine, Héritiers du Comte Lafon Magnum Dry | White | Still

This is the village where the Lafons’ cellar is located. This is the cuvée that most encapsulates what the Lafons are trying - and succeeding - at doing in Mâcon. It’s the calling-card of the domaine, and the wine is always fruity, juicy, and bright. There is good volume on the palate, thanks to the concentration of the fruit which comes from these high-altitude parcels.

Olivier Leflaive
2023 Montagny 1er Cru, Olivier Leflaive Frères, Côte Chalonnaise Half Dry | White | Still

Floral, precise, and energetic. This Montagny Premier Cru is a classic example of why the appellation is recognised as one of the top communes in the Côte Chalonnaise. This wine itself is a blend of various sites, and is vinified almost exclusively in oak, with just a fraction of it new. It has this tight, fruit-based minerality and a textural structure, with plump lemon pulp at its core.

Ready: 2025 - 2030
2023 Bourgogne Blanc Les Sétilles, Olivier Leflaive Frères Half Dry | White | Still

Les Sétilles is an outstanding Bourgogne Blanc, and one of the most popular wines on our list. Much of the fruit comes from around Puligny-Montrachet, blended with some from further afield, like the Hautes-Côtes, which brings welcome freshness and tension. Two-thirds of the wine is raised in oak, with just a touch (10%) new. It is precise, full of character, with a mineral bite and a lovely seam of acidity. It is great value for money.
